The 2012 Ford Focus is equipped with a revolutionary new engine. Revolutionary because of the amount involved is only 1.0 liter and three-cylinder, 56.5mpg and 114g/km CO2.
Not only EcoBoost engine Focus small and economical, but the turbo means that no special eco-underpowered. We tested the 123bhp version, but there are also variants of 99bhp which manages 58.9mpg and 109g/km.
Placing a 1.0 liter three-cylinder engine in the Ford Focus does not sound like the perfect recipe for driving sensations. But this is Ford’s newest – and smallest – EcoBoost engine and it could be one of the best in the current lineup. Small engine, a footprint of sheets of A4 paper, is available with 99bhp or 123bhp. Our car had the latter, but both engines feature direct injection and turbo are very small, and weighs just 97kg – which is about 30 kg lighter than the 1.6-liter gasoline engine.
Look at the performance figures and you can see why Ford saw this as a replacement engine 1.6-liter. It takes focus from 0-62mph in 11.3 seconds, which is 4/10 faster than a big machine, and can manage 54.5mpg. For comparison, the 1.6 offers a 44.1mpg fuel economy. Although none of the songs that 1.0-liter diesel model is consistent with Ford, the new EcoBoost has other talents. At idle, it’s almost completely silent, and acceleration there, muffled in a tiny three-cylinder corresponding to the mature nature of the Focus.
Most small engines such as this requires a large number of revs to pull away, but the EcoBoost 1.0 has no problem. The only time you’ll be surprised by its compact size when you’re out of gear and found that very little engine braking to slow you down. In the corner, you’ll see that there is less weight on the front of the car, which means that it feels more agile and more responsive than other focus that we have run.
The most popular trim level be strengthened Zetec here. List of decent kit, and includes air-con, DAB radio and cruise control. Although the £ 17,945 price tag may seem expensive, it is still £ 850 cheaper than the comparable 1.6 TDCi diesel. That means you need a lot of mileage diesel to drive before starting with more financial sense than the petrol engine is very easy to make.
